Today, Masonic Grand Lodges oversee and govern regular Freemasonry
Today, Masonic Grand Lodges oversee and govern regular Freemasonry, usually on a state-wide level in the United States.
This wasn't always the case, however.
While these Grand Lodges were still forming, there were several small, private Lodges that existed and chose not to become a part of a Grand Lodge.
