HIRAM ABIFF: A BIBLICAL AND MASONIC LEGEND

HIRAM ABIFF: A BIBLICAL AND MASONIC LEGEND

What’s the deal with Hiram Abiff?

Hiram Abiff, however you’d like to refer to him, is both a biblical and Masonic legend. Here are some of the things you need to know in order to make sense of his significance.

The Bible tells us that Hiram was the son of a widow and a man of Tyre. He was also a member of the tribe of Nephtali. There is much significance to the name of the tribe, but we’ll discuss this at a later date.

Hiram was highly skilled in working with bronze and stone. He was, therefore, chosen by King Solomon to provide ornate decorations for  the new Temple in Jerusalem.

And…that’s about all the Bible mentions of him. Yup. Hiram is mere footnote. But for Freemasons, Hiram Abiff holds a much higher status. He’s a legend. Literally.
