Many Masonic organizations confer a self-styled order of knighthood that is not backed by a government, head of state, or noble. However, there is one specific Masonic honor that does confer a true knightly title.
Within the Swedish Rite, the highest honor is the Royal Order of King Charles XIII. This distinction is awarded by the State to Freemasons who have distinguished themselves through service to the Fraternity and their Country.
Shown here is Bro. Tom C. Bergroth wearing the insignia of the Order - the red cross suspended from a neck ribbon and a breast jewel of the same design. He was Marshal of the Swedish Order of Freemasons from 2001 to 2012.
