- A personal opinion article - Political Evolution: Navigating from Progressivism to a Right-Wing Trajectory
Macron's Shifting Political Landscape: From Progressivism to Right-Wing Stance In a comprehensive analysis of President Emmanuel Macron's political journey since 2017, a prominent left-leaning British magazine observes a marked departure from the initial progressive agenda. The magazine contends that Macron is increasingly aligning with a certain authoritarian right, signaling a significant shift in his political stance. The recent appointment of Gabriel Attal as Prime Minister, dubbed by Libération as "Macron Prime Minister," symbolizes more than just a change in leadership. Attal, a loyal protege and political doppelganger of Macron, shares not only a similar career trajectory but also a commitment to the evolving political direction set by the French President. While Macron initially presented himself as a centrist candidate with a program of social and economic liberalism, he garnered support primarily from the center-left electorate during his 2017 presidential campaign. Once in office, Macron aimed for a balanced approach, combining economic policies with a commitment to European integration and environmental concerns. Despite having prime ministers from the conservative Les Républicains party, Macron strategically included figures from both the center-left and center-right in his governments. However, the magazine's analysis suggests that Macron's policies, particularly on identity and security matters, have increasingly leaned towards conservative sentiments. His strict interpretation of secularism and assertive stance on Islamism have raised eyebrows, and key appointments, such as Gérald Darmanin as Minister of the Interior in 2020, have reinforced a right-wing shift. This notable transformation in Macron's political strategy prompts questions about the future trajectory of Macronism. As France anticipates potential changes in policy orientation, observers are keenly watching how this shift will resonate with the electorate and influence the broader political landscape. #Macron #FrenchPolitics #PoliticalEvolution #ProgressiveShift #RightWingTurn #MacronismAnalysis #GabrielAttal #PolicyChanges #IdentityPolitics #SecurityMeasures
- 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Unveils Diverse Nominee Lineup
Cher, Mariah Carey, and Sinead O'Connor Lead Fresh Faces in Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2024 Nominations Oasis, Sade, and Other Newcomers Join the Roster of Inductee Hopefuls This past Saturday unveiled the initial nominees for the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class, featuring an exciting mix of music legends and highly anticipated newcomers. Among the first-time nominees, notable names include Cher, Mariah Carey, and Sinead O'Connor, who have shaped decades of music with their unique contributions. In addition to these icons, other first-timers on the nomination list include Oasis, Sade, and Lenny Kravitz, bringing their distinct influences to the musical landscape. The diverse array of nominees also features established artists like Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, and the legendary Ozzy Osbourne, recognized as a solo artist for the first time. John Sykes, the president of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, commented on the nominee list, stating, "This remarkable list of nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebrates. Continuing in the true spirit of rock 'n' roll, these artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps. This year marks a significant transition in the nomination process following the departure of Jann Wenner, the former Rolling Stone editor and co-founder of the Rock Hall, who wielded considerable influence over the awards process. The diverse selection of nominees suggests a more inclusive and representative approach to choosing honorees. The posthumous nomination of Sinead O'Connor, the renowned Irish singer-songwriter who passed away in July last year at the age of 56, adds an emotional touch to the list. Additionally, the potential reunion of Oasis's Liam and Noel Gallagher, known for their intense public feuds, adds an extra layer of anticipation for fans of '90s Britpop. The final list of inductees will be announced soon, and the induction ceremony promises to be a must-attend event, honoring these notable artists and their lasting impact on the world of music. #RockHall2024 #MusicLegends #FreshFaces #HallOfFameNominees #Cher #MariahCarey #SineadOConnor #Oasis #Sade #LennyKravitz #MusicHistory #InclusiveNominees #RockNRollSpirit #IconicInfluences
- TikTok Takes Action Against #LeggingLegs Trend Amid Body Image Concerns
In late January, a concerning trend emerged on TikTok, as users began popularizing the hashtag #LeggingLegs, showcasing slim bodies deemed most desirable for leggings. The National Alliance for Eating Disorders, in collaboration with social media companies like TikTok, Meta, and Pinterest, swiftly addressed the issue. A hotline volunteer received a call alerting them to the trend, prompting the organization to flag it to TikTok. Within a day, TikTok responded by banning the hashtag and redirecting users to the alliance's hotline and other supportive resources. This incident sheds light on the ongoing battle between social media platforms and harmful content. While TikTok took action against #LeggingLegs, experts express concerns about similar content fueled by social media algorithms, highlighting the challenges in regulating and controlling such content online. The struggle underscores the broader impact of social media on body image and mental health, prompting discussions about the need for effective content moderation and user protection measures. #TikTok #BodyImage #ContentModeration #SocialMediaImpact
- Biden Challenges Trump on Immigration, Urges GOP to Stand Firm
President Biden Takes Aim at Trump Over Immigration Deal In a significant shift from his earlier approach, President Joe Biden has directly confronted former President Donald J. Trump regarding the stalled bipartisan immigration agreement. Blaming Trump for injecting crass politics into the sensitive issue, Biden urged congressional Republicans to resist Trump's influence and prioritize national security over political maneuvering. During a press briefing on Tuesday, President Biden stated, "It's disheartening to see how the previous administration and its allies are more interested in weaponizing the immigration debate than working together for a solution. Our nation's security should not be a casualty of political gamesmanship." The bipartisan immigration deal, painstakingly negotiated over several months, faced an uphill battle due to opposition from Trump and Republicans aligned with his stance. Biden's forceful intervention underscores the growing tension surrounding immigration policies as the 2024 political landscape unfolds. While calling on Republicans to "show some spine" and resist Trump's influence, Biden acknowledged the dim prospects of the deal's success. The clash between the current president and his predecessor sets the stage for an intense political struggle over immigration reform, with potential ramifications for the upcoming elections. As the debate continues, the role of congressional Republicans becomes pivotal in determining the fate of immigration policies. The confrontation between Biden and Trump adds a new layer of complexity to an already contentious issue, raising questions about the ability of lawmakers to navigate through political pressures for the sake of national interests. #BidenVsTrump #ImmigrationDebate #NationalSecurity #USPolitics

- Centennial Commemoration of Freemasonry in the Canary Islands: A Legacy of Unity and Progress
Centennial Celebration of Freemasonry in the Canary Islands Highlights Legacy of Freedom and Fraternity and Strengthens International Ties Honoring 100 Years of Masonic Tradition and Brotherhood. This weekend, authorities and prominent members of Canary Islands society gathered to celebrate the centenary of the Grand Lodge of the Canary Islands, a regional Masonic organization that defied island divisions and historical persecutions. The event, marked by the presentation of the book "The Grand Lodge of the Canary Islands: One Hundred Years of Freemasonry in the Islands," witnessed emotional moments and reflections on the significant contribution of Masons to the region. A hundred years ago, a group of Masons from the islands of Gran Canaria, La Palma, Lanzarote, and Tenerife came together to form the Grand Lodge of the Canary Islands, firmly believing in the potential of the region. The first Grand Master, Amado Zurita Colet, was remembered with emotion during the event, and the presence of his grandson, Amado Zurita, was hailed as a link to the past, prompting warm applause. The book presented during the celebration serves as a tribute to these visionary Masons, who, despite adversities, advocated for the regional idea of the Canary Islands as a project for the future and a source of hope. The work highlights not only the memory and sacrifice of these Masons but also seeks to inspire future generations to contribute to building a society based on the universal principles of freedom, equality, and fraternity. The presence of members from various Spanish and foreign obediences at the event emphasized the openness of the Grand Lodge of the Canary Islands to Masonic ecumenism, recognizing and respecting all Masonic currents, without exception. During the event, the Vice President of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Don Gustavo Matos, highlighted the validity of the act, noting that despite advances, the pejorative use of the word "Mason" still persists. This observation underscores that, despite changes over time, certain perceptions endure in society. Editorial Idea, represented by Don Francisco Pomares, recalled the past, emphasizing that the location now occupied by the Parliament of the Canary Islands was a scene of repression against left-wing militants, adding a dimension of poetic justice to the event. Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the Canary Islands, Don Juan Miguel Rodríguez, paid tribute to the recently deceased former minister Jerónimo Saavedra, highlighting his "serene courage" and expressing hope that the book would be the starting point for a greater understanding of Freemasonry. The book's editor, Don Víctor Berástegui Afonso, emphasized the strategic position of the Canary Islands as a catalyst for greater openness to ideas, highlighting the need for an autonomous Masonic organization conscious of the island's culture. Additionally, it was highlighted during the event that the Grand Lodge of the Canary Islands maintains relations of friendship and fraternity with the Grand Lodge of Portugal (GLNP), and both are members of the International Confederation of United Grand Lodges, strengthening international ties within Freemasonry. The event was concluded by the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Dom Ángel Víctor Torres Pérez, who underscored the intense persecution suffered by Masons during the Franco dictatorship. He advocated for the need for educational centers that demystify Freemasonry, aiming to normalize an institution demonized during that period, promoting a deeper understanding and acceptance of its contribution to society. #FreemasonryCentenary #CanaryIslandsHistory #GrandLodgeCelebration #MasonicUnity #LegacyOfBrotherhood #SocietalProgress

- UGLE's Defiant Stance: Freemasonry and Religion Amid Vatican Ban
United Grand Lodge of England Affirms Stance on Freemasonry and Religion Amid Vatican's Ban on Roman Catholics In response to recent reports highlighting the Vatican's reiteration of the ban on Roman Catholics becoming Freemasons, the United Grand Lodge of England convened to address the relationship between Freemasonry and Religion. The Board, referencing a statement approved in September 1962, emphasized that Masonry is neither a religion nor a substitute for religion. "The Board has been giving the most earnest consideration to this subject, being convinced that it is of fundamental importance to the reputation and well-being of English Freemasonry that no misunderstanding should exist inside or outside the Craft," stated the Board. The statement reinforced that Masonry seeks to instill "a standard of conduct and behavior which it believes to be acceptable to all creeds, but studiously refrains from intervening in the field of dogma or theology." It categorically asserted, "Masonry, therefore, is not a competitor with religion, though, in the sphere of human conduct, it may be hoped that its teaching will be complementary to that of religion." Adrian Marsh, Grand Secretary, expressed, "Its basic requirement that every member of the Order shall believe in a Supreme Being and the stress laid upon his duty towards Him should be sufficient evidence to all but the willfully prejudiced that Masonry is an upholder of religion." He emphasized that Masonry demands a belief in a Supreme Being for admission and expects members to continue practicing their religion. #UGLE #Freemasonry #VaticanBan #ReligiousUnity #MasonicNews #CatholicRestrictions #FaithInFocus

- A Call to Action: Defending Human Rights in the Face of Emerging Challenges
Text of the GLNP Archive The erosion of human rights in an age of extremism, populism, and digital giants. By the end of the XX century, hardly anyone will be capable of predicting the civilizational degree setback with big consequences to the Human Rights with which the XXI century would start. Cannot call progress to the life extension of the citizens if, otherwise, you make them a part disadvantaged of the society, doomed to abandonment and misery as a result of the natural fragility of human beings with many years of life. The issue of migration is another aspect to be kept in mind. Shocks indifference with which men, women and children who are forced to migrate, in subhuman conditions; by the words, acts and omissions to which they are voted for their “crime”. Shock the impotence of the United Nations and its Secretary General. Human consumption is only considered, as a mere product if, when and where there are guarantees that someone will be paid. Not enough, populists blame today's refugees for being a threat to the civilized status quo, as the Nazis blamed the Jews and gypsies of yesterday, to be the cause of all their evils. Populism is, in fact, one of the cancers that rises periodically and that works in companies with a low cultural level, although they can be rich in information, as it is, each more and more, contemporary society. Would anyone in the 90's of the last century be able to predict the election of someone like Trump in the USA? Or that the extreme rights, without ideology but with strong interests, were gradually taking places of relevance in the governance of the nations? The threat posed to society by digital giants is another scourge. Not only the ability to control and exploit citizens using their own personal data, but also telling the paradigmatic, sad, and unimaginable that takes place in Seattle, USA. Any of these factors, be it extremism, populism, the threat from the new digital dominators, or the abandonment of our elders to their fate, attacks against human dignity and fundamental Human Rights. And it is not just “out there” that everything happens. It is also around us. Each of us can, and must, be aware and act. That is why we believe that the issue of Human Rights is, at the beginning of this century, a pressing issue. It is important that we, citizens, transform into knowledge the mountain of information that surrounds us and grows day by day. This newsletter, from the initiative of the Human Rights Commission GLNP, intends to be a modest contribution in this sense, disseminating different aspects of organizations, recommendations, laws and facts related to Human Rights. - Foundations of Freemasonry: Aims and Relationships of the Craft
Uncover the Foundations of Freemasonry: "Aims and Relationships of the Craft - UGLE Step into the timeless foundations of Freemasonry with the captivating text "Aims and Relationships of the Craft," accepted by the United Grand Lodge of England in 1949. This document provides a profound exploration of the unchanged principles that have shaped Freemasonry since its organization in 1717. Discover the guiding values and guidelines that define the essence of Freemasonry, as established by the respected United Grand Lodge of England. AIMS AND RELATIONSHIPS OF THE CRAFT Accepted by the Grand Lodge, September 7, 1949 In August, 1938, the Grand Lodges of England, Ireland, and Scotland each agreed upon and issued a statement identical in terms except that the name of the issuing Grand Lodge appeared throughout. This statement, which was entitled ‘Aims and Relationships of the Craft’, was in the following terms: 1. From time to time the United Grand Lodge of England has deemed it desirable to set forth in precise form the aims of Freemasonry as consistently practised under its Jurisdiction since it came into being as an organized body in 1717, and also to defi ne the principles governing its relations with those other Grand Lodges with which it is in fraternal accord. 2. In view of representations which have been received, and of statements recently issued which have distorted or obscured the true objects of Freemasonry, it is once again considered necessary to emphasize certain fundamental principles of the Order. 3. The fi rst condition of admission into, and membership of, the Order is a belief in the Supreme Being. This is essential and admits of no compromise. 4. The Bible, referred to by Freemasons as the Volume of the Sacred Law, is always open in the Lodges. Every Candidate is required to take his Obligation on that book or on the Volume which is held by his particular creed to impart sanctity to an oath or promise taken upon it. 5. Everyone who enters Freemasonry is, at the outset, strictly forbidden to countenance any act which may have a tendency to subvert the peace and good order of society; he must pay due obedience to the law of any state in which he resides or which may xi AIMS AND RELATIONSHIPS OF THE CRAFT aff ord him protection, and he must never be remiss in the allegiance due to the Sovereign of his native land. 6. While English Freemasonry thus inculcates in each of its members the duties of loyalty and citizenship, it reserves to the individual the right to hold his own opinion with regard to public aff airs. But neither in any Lodge, not at any time in his capacity as a Freemason, is he permitted to discuss or to advance his views on theological or political questions. 7. The Grand Lodge has always consistently refused to express any opinion on questions of foreign or domestic state policy either at home or abroad, and it will not allow its name to be associated with any action, however humanitarian it may appear to be, which infringes its unalterable policy of standing aloof from every question aff ecting the relations between one government and another, or between political parties, or questions as to rival theories of government. 8. The Grand Lodge is aware that there do exist Bodies, styling themselves Freemasons, which do not adhere to these principles, and while that attitude exists the Grand Lodge of England refuses absolutely to have any relations with such Bodies, or to regard them as Freemasons. 9. The Grand Lodge of England is a Sovereign and independent Body practising Freemasonry only within the three Degrees and only within the limits defi ned in its Constitution as ‘pure Antient Masonry’. It does not recognize or admit the existence of any superior Masonic authority, however styled. 10. On more than one occasion the Grand Lodge has refused, and will continue to refuse, to participate in Conferences with so called International Associations claiming to represent Freemasonry, xii AIMS AND RELATIONSHIPS OF THE CRAFT which admit to membership Bodies failing to conform strictly to the principles upon which the Grand Lodge of England is founded. The Grand Lodge does not admit any such claim, nor can its views be represented by any such Association. 11. There is no secret with regard to any of the basic principles of Freemasonry, some of which have been stated above. The Grand Lodge will always consider the recognition of those Grand Lodges which profess and practise, and can show that they have consistently professed and practised, those established and unaltered principles, but in no circumstances will it enter into discussion with a view to any new or varied interpretation of them. They must be accepted and practised wholeheartedly and in their entirety by those who desire to be recognized as Freemasons by the United Grand Lodge of England. The Grand Lodge of England has been asked if it still stands by this declaration, particularly in regard to paragraph 7. The Grand Lodge of England replied that it stood by every word of the declaration, and has since asked for the opinion of the Grand Lodges of Ireland and Scotland. A conference has been held between the three Grand Lodges, and all unhesitatingly reaffi rm the statement that was pronounced in 1938: nothing in present-day aff airs has been found that could cause them to recede from that attitude. If Freemasonry once deviated from its course by expressing an opinion on political or theological questions, it would be called upon not only publicly to approve or denounce any movement which might arise in the future, but would sow the seeds of discord among its own members. The three Grand Lodges are convinced that it is only by this rigid adherence to this policy that Freemasonry has survived the constantly xiii AIMS AND RELATIONSHIPS OF THE CRAFT changing doctrines of the outside world, and are compelled to place on record their complete disapproval of any action which may tend to permit the slightest departure from the basic principles of Freemasonry. They are strongly of opinion that if any of the three Grand Lodges does so, it cannot maintain a claim to be following the Antient Landmarks of the Order, and must ultimately face disintegration. #Freemasonry #CraftPrinciples #UGLE #MasonicValues #AntientLandmarks
- Foundations of Recognition: UGLE's Basic Principles for Grand Lodge Approval
Basic Principles for Grand Lodge Recognition It is with great pleasure that we present the "Basic Principles for Grand Lodge Recognition," accepted by the Grand Lodge on September 4, 1929. These fundamental principles outline the basis on which the United Grand Lodge of England can consider recognizing any Grand Lodge applying for recognition within the English Jurisdiction. The initiative to create these principles arose from the M.W. The Grand Master, expressing the desire for the Board to draw up a statement of the basic principles on which this Grand Lodge could base its decision to recognize. The Board of General Purposes promptly complied with this request. These principles, now approved by the Grand Master, will serve as the basis for a questionnaire that will be forwarded in the future to each jurisdiction requesting English recognition. The Board wishes that not only these bodies but all Brothers in general within the Grand Master's Jurisdiction be fully informed about these Basic Principles of Freemasonry, which the United Grand Lodge of England has upheld throughout its history. MyFraternity BASIC PRINCIPLES FOR GRAND LODGE RECOGNITION Accepted by the Grand Lodge, September 4, 1929 The M.W. The Grand Master having expressed a desire that the Board would draw up a statement of the Basic Principles on which this Grand Lodge could be invited to recognize any Grand Lodge applying for recognition by the English Jurisdiction, the Board of General Purposes has gladly complied. The result, as follows, has been approved by the Grand Master and it will form the basis of a questionnaire to be forwarded in future to each Jurisdiction requesting English recognition. The Board desires that not only such bodies but the Brethren generally throughout the Grand Master’s Jurisdiction shall be fully informed as to those Basic Principles of Freemasonry for which the Grand Lodge of England has stood throughout its history 1. Regularity of origin; i.e. each Grand Lodge shall have been established lawfully by a duly recognized Grand Lodge or by three or more regularly constituted Lodges. 2. That a belief in the G.A.O.T.U. and His revealed will shall be an essential qualifi cation for membership. 3. That all Initiates shall take their Obligation on or in full view of the open Volume of the Sacred Law, by which is meant the revelation from above which is binding on the conscience of the particular individual who is being initiated. 4. That the membership of the Grand Lodge and individual Lodges shall be composed exclusively of those who were made Masons as men; and that each Grand Lodge shall have no Masonic association of any kind with bodies which make women Masons.* 5. That the Grand Lodge shall have sovereign jurisdiction over the Lodges under its control; i.e. that it shall be a responsible, independent, xv BASIC PRINCIPLES FOR GRAND LODGE RECOGNITION self-governing organization, with sole and undisputed authority over the Craft or Symbolic Degrees (Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason) within its Jurisdiction; and shall not in any way be subject to, or divide such authority with, a Supreme Council or other Power claiming any control or supervision over those degrees. 6. That the three Great Lights of Freemasonry (namely, the Volume of the Sacred Law, the Square, and the Compasses) shall always be exhibited when the Grand Lodge or its subordinate Lodges are at work, the chief of these being the Volume of the Sacred Law. 7. That the discussion of religion and politics within the Lodge shall be strictly prohibited. 8. That the principles of the Antient Landmarks, customs, and usages of the Craft shall be strictly observed. * Amended wording of paragraph 4 adopted 12 September 2018. #Freemasonry #UGLE #MasonicRecognition #MasonicValues #MasonicHistory
