Foundations of Recognition: UGLE's Basic Principles for Grand Lodge Approval

Basic Principles for Grand Lodge Recognition

It is with great pleasure that we present the "Basic Principles for Grand Lodge Recognition," accepted by the Grand Lodge on September 4, 1929.

These fundamental principles outline the basis on which the United Grand Lodge of England can consider recognizing any Grand Lodge applying for recognition within the English Jurisdiction.

The initiative to create these principles arose from the M.W. The Grand Master, expressing the desire for the Board to draw up a statement of the basic principles on which this Grand Lodge could base its decision to recognize.

The Board of General Purposes promptly complied with this request.

These principles, now approved by the Grand Master, will serve as the basis for a questionnaire that will be forwarded in the future to each jurisdiction requesting English recognition.

The Board wishes that not only these bodies but all Brothers in general within the Grand Master's Jurisdiction be fully informed about these Basic Principles of Freemasonry, which the United Grand Lodge of England has upheld throughout its history.
